Quote Approval Tips

Follow these tips to get your quotes approved quickly and reduce rejections.

Why Quotes Get Rejected

Every quote submitted to Quote Gallery is reviewed before it goes live. This helps maintain the quality and authenticity of our collection. Most rejections happen for a few common, easily avoidable reasons. This guide will help you submit quotes that get approved on the first try.

Do

  • Verify the quote exists — search for it online to confirm it's real
  • Check spelling and grammar carefully before submitting
  • Attribute the quote to the correct author
  • Use the exact wording — don't paraphrase or modify the quote
  • Check if the quote already exists on Quote Gallery before submitting
  • Use proper capitalization and punctuation

Don't

  • Submit quotes you made up and attribute them to famous people
  • Use AI-generated text as quotes
  • Submit the same quote multiple times
  • Attribute quotes to the wrong author
  • Submit song lyrics, poetry, or long book excerpts
  • Submit offensive, hateful, or violent content

Detailed Tips

1. Verify the Quote Exists

Before submitting, do a quick search to confirm the quote is real and accurately worded. This is the single most impactful step you can take.

How to verify:

  • Search the exact quote text in a search engine with quotation marks.
  • Check reputable quote databases like Wikiquote or BrainyQuote.
  • If the quote only appears on unreliable sources or social media, it may be misattributed.
  • Look for the original source — a book, speech, interview, or letter.

2. Check Grammar & Spelling

Typos and grammatical errors are one of the most common reasons for rejection. Take a moment to proofread before submitting.

❌ Bad

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itslef."

✅ Good

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

3. Get the Attribution Right

Many popular quotes are commonly misattributed. A quick search can help you confirm the actual author.

❌ Commonly misattributed

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results." — Albert Einstein

✅ More accurate

This quote has no verified original source. It is often attributed to Einstein, but there is no evidence he ever said it.

When in doubt, select "Unknown" as the author rather than guessing.

4. Check for Duplicates

Before submitting, use the search feature to check if the quote already exists on Quote Gallery. Search for a distinctive phrase from the quote — you don't need to enter the whole thing.

5. Use the Exact Wording

Submit the quote exactly as the author said or wrote it. Don't paraphrase, shorten, or "improve" the wording. Even small changes can alter the meaning of a quote.

❌ Paraphrased

"Happiness comes from within, not from what you have."

✅ Original

"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions." — Dalai Lama

6. Watch Your Formatting

Small formatting details make a big difference in how a quote looks on the platform.

  • Use standard straight quotes, not special or decorative characters.
  • Don't wrap the quote in quotation marks — the platform adds those automatically.
  • Capitalize the first word of the quote.
  • End with appropriate punctuation (period, question mark, exclamation mark, or ellipsis).
  • Don't include the author's name inside the quote text itself.

Run through this checklist before hitting submit:

  • I searched Quote Gallery and this quote doesn't already exist
  • The wording matches the original — I haven't paraphrased it
